As a child, I began dancing in my bedroom to movie soundtrack albums, thus beginning my love of expressive movement. I have studied ballet, modern dance, ballroom dance, and bellydance. In 1998, after a long period of self-neglect, during which I gained lots of weight and became a pack-a-day smoker, I was depressed and unhealthy. This is when I began my yoga journey. Through that practice, I became reacquainted with my body and learned to move again! Eventually, I lost 95 pounds by eating sensibly and moving my body. I’ve also been a nonsmoker since 2000.

I struggled with food for many years, weighing too little and too much for my height and build, and always judging myself according to what I was eating or not eating. In 2004, I decided I’d had enough. I began by closely examing my relationship with food and started a practice of mindful eating. I lost 95 pounds by eating reasonable portions and moving my body in ways that made me feel good, mostly dancing and practicing yoga. I didn’t limit my food choices, only my portion sizes. And I started loving my food, my body, and most of all, my life.

I share a message of conscious, peaceful, healthy living through coaching people into healthier and more fulfilling lifestyles using a variety of mind/body disciplines (including yoga, Vedic Thai Yoga, and yoga therapy). I’m a firm believer in taking responsibility for your health and making conscious and informed decisions about your body. I have a deep desire to help empower others to make positive changes in their lives, and to learn how liberating it can be to be healthy and strong.

I’m a graduate of TCU and live in Fort Worth with my mega-Geek husband and our family of pets.

Why Laughing Ladybug?

Ladybugs symbolizes change, letting go of fear, and setting out on new adventures. According to Native American animal spirit lore, “Often Ladybug will appear to us when we have an opportunity to succeed, grow, and start something new. All of the beetle family transform from larvae to adult, showing us we too can transform our lives.” The appearance of Ladybug helps us tune in to new opportunities and to be open to whatever the universe has to offer us.
