Yoga

Yoga can help people of any age, build, or background find their own paths to self-awareness. Practicing with you one-on-one in the privacy of your own home allows you to experience a customized practice that reflects your personal needs. I specialize in teaching women, especially beginners, but all experience levels are welcome. Classes are a fun fusion of Vinyasa yoga (yoga flow) and elements of Pilates and bellydance.
Yoga is different from other fitness regimes because we connect the movement of the body and the fluctuations of the mind to the rhythm of our breath. The word “yoga” means “yoke.” We yoke, or connect, the mind and body using the breath as the bridge between the two. By turning our awareness inward, we learn to recognize and acknowledge our thought patterns without labeling them, judging them, or trying to change them. We become more aware of our experiences from moment to moment off the mat, too. The awareness that we cultivate is what makes yoga a practice, rather than a task or a goal to be completed. Your body will become much more flexible by practicing yoga, and so will your mind.
Yoga is not a religion. It is a philosophy that began in India over 5,000 years ago. Yoga sometimes interweaves other philosophies such as Hinduism or Buddhism, but it is not necessary to study those paths, nor is it necessary to surrender your own religious beliefs to practice yoga. In fact, if you’d like, we can incorporate some of your religion’s scriptures into your practice.
